Harston's Local Heritage Assets

Hilary Roadley

In addition to grade listed buildings of national note, Historic England Advice Note 7: Local Heritage Listing (May 2016) states that ‘local lists play an  essential role in building and reinforcing a sense of local character and distinctiveness in the historic environment, as part of the wider range of designation. They enable the significance of any building or site on the list to be better taken into account in planning applications affecting the building or site or its setting.’

As Harston doesn’t have a Conservation Area to protect its historic core, members of Harston’s Local History Group and Harstons Residents Group have put together a local list of buildings, structures and open spaces of historical significance and interest. More details of those on the list can be seen in the attached pdf.
