1911 Coronation celebration meal

Where was this 1911 celebration meal held that is shown in the photo?

The school log book of June 16 stated that the school was closed for a week – Coronation Week.

12 May 1937 Coronation Meal

Rev Ward in the parish magazine spoke of it: “This is the month of the coronation of the King and Queen…. Broadcasting will take many to the Abbey for the Coronation Service …The day is of course one of joyful thanksgiving too. And so we shall have our celebrations. The special church services here will not be long, 9.30 at Harston, 10.30 at Hauxton, and then the afternoon programmes will begin at 2. There is no need for me to give details of the Harston arrangements as the programmes will be delivered to every house before this programme (magazine) is out. I do not know Hauxton details yet. So far 459 tickets have been issued for the tea in Harston, and I fear not many more can be provided for.”

1937 programme is shown above. the events were held in The Park, a field opposite Park House, in the High Street, that was owned by the Hurrells who kindly made it available for village events.

Harston Coronation Celebration committee brought its work to an end with a public meeting on June 14th. (Money left over went to village Hall for new kettle and roof repair fund.)
