1950s . A small business/shop to the right of No 29. Not known which business then occupied it, thought to have originally been Pask's Butchers.

No 29 has always been a single storey, detached building with a rendered finish. It is thought this property was Ayres’ Grocery shop in 1929 but we have no photo to show this; some older villagers remember Ayre’s shop as having been here in the early 1940s.
To the left of No 29 was Miss Jackson’s hairdressers sometime between 1929 and 1937, but this was gone by 2014.

The Ayres owned and operated the general store there into the 1950’s, I can’t remember how old I was when they stopped. After them it was run by the Sargaents, who lived in one of the bungalows between Hauxton Gap and Pest Control ( Fisons ) . The Ayres had been missionaries overseas, but I don’t know where. The Sargaents had a daughter named Gaye.
